MY STORY

Before I began my consulting career, I was a professor at a respected State University, Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo. The president of the University encouraged professors to engage in ongoing professional development and my pursuit of that development opened up a successful career in the strategy consulting field.

Serving, teaching and coaching others was always something I was passionate about, I knew consulting with businesses would be a perfect fit. It would also be a means to enhance the classroom environment with students. I partnered with another agri-business professor and sought out concepts and tools that would be helpful to companies.

We began to research what was available in strategic planning for businesses. The literature abounded in lofty concepts and theories, which may well be useful for the executive towers of the Fortune 500, but there wasn’t anything available that was very practical for business owners and managers of large departments or business owners. Granted, this was early 1980 and the topics on "strategy" were limited. So we set out to develop a framework to help business owners and managers work with their team to develop and execute a strategic plan to grow their business.

Today, I am retired from the university after 25 years of service and have a thriving consulting business doing primarily team-based strategic planning.

All I can say is, that by having the opportunity to build a succcessful strategy consulting practice and long-standing relationships with clients, it enhanced my students experience at Cal Poly, improved my family’s lifestyle and positively impacted a multitude of companies throughout the Country.
